Regular Chuck-it is hard on hands

posted 6 years ago

This product comes in the regular long length and a Jr which is shorter, but still effective. I have both.

The long one is heavy and long and it takes up a lot of space. It is too long to fit under my stroller when I take my kid and dogs out to the park. It does grab a tennis ball rather well, and enables me to toss the ball without having to touch it. It is made of one piece of plastic. The handle is sore on my hands. My husband also finds the handle to be sore after a while. The finger grips are molded, but it is too wide for my hands (from knuckle to knuckle on the inside) so that is where the pain is.

The Jr. is shorter and much lighter. It fits in my stroller basket (Jeep Liberty Limited Urban Terrain 3-wheel with a huge basket). The handle is much more comfortable to grip and ergonomic. It also is effective in picking up and tossing the tennis ball, though you might have to bend a little bit to get it.

Both work only on regular tennis balls. I bought a bunch of rubber balls from PetEdge, and although the size was the same as the tennis ball size, they were too small to get picked up by the Chuckit.

The Chuckit tennis balls are no more durable than a tennis ball, so if the balls get worn out or "popped" then I suggest getting regular tennis balls to replace it as they are cheaper.

My big GSD pops the ball really quickly, so I get lots of balls all the time. She's a tough chewer.

The only drawback is sometimes when I Chuck the ball, I get some doggie spittle spray in my face when the wind is blowing just so. The ball gets really wet and slimy, so when you chuck it, there is like spray that flies off the ball when it releases. Sometimes the spray is flying off the ball and it looks really gross.

Distance between the Jr and the regular wasn't that much. I would recommend that females get the Jr, as it fits much better in the hand, and it gets a far throw as well.

Since my toddler is with me when I take the dogs out, I have to be careful that I don't hit her with the Chuck it after I have "released" the ball. I guess you can relate it to a baseball bat after it hits the ball, or a golf club after you contact the ball. There is the "wraparound" motion of the instrument. The regular one is the one I have to be careful since it is long. My husband accidentally whacked one of my dogs in the face with the regular Chuckit when the other dog went racing for the ball. The Jr isn't that much of a problem.

Overall this a good product. I use it a lot since my dogs are ball crazy.

Pros: Long reaching, keeps hands clean

Cons: Handle is sore on hands, ocassional sprayback

This is Great

posted 6 years ago

This is a great toy to help burn off energy for any dog. Our dog will even bring it to us, when he wants to play catch. We have used it off the dock at our lake home and he loves swimming out to catch the ball. A wonderful toy!

Pros: Provides exercise for any dog

Cons: none

Fetch!

posted 7 years ago

This is great if you have high energy dogs. It will burn off some of their steam. We had it on vacation with us. The dogs were fetching the balls in the woods and in the water.

Saves an arm!

posted 5 years ago

I love this product! I have the blue one and it saves my arm from falling off while playing fetch with my shiba. It also tires him out a little faster since I can throw further with Chuckit!. I use this with my cousin's golden retriever, and he loves it too since he can run further to get the ball. If I had to throw the ball for those two dogs, my arm would for sure fall off. Great product, but I actually had to get a new one because my shiba found the handle interesting to chew on, so now if you try and throw the ball with it, the warped plastic pokes you in the hand. Overall, great, just don't let your dog chew on the handle. Oh another plus is that regular tennis balls fit, so you don't have to use their ball, you can use a regular tennis ball.

Pros: Saves arm, easy to use, regular tennis balls fit

Cons: should come with more tennis balls

Doggy heaven!!

posted 7 years ago

I have two awesome dogs and they both love to chase balls. The best thing for me is, with this, I no longer have to touch the soaking wet ball full of dog drool. Not to mention, it tires them out, not me, as a women, I can't throw that far, this will really send the ball flying! After 20 min. of chasing their balls around the yard, they are ready for a break. If you dog loves to play fetch, you need this. Also I have found it works on tennis and rubber balls as long as it is the same size as a tennis ball.

Pros: Everything!!

Cons: Nothing!!
