The Booda Yummy Bone adds beef flavor to entice dogs.

July 26, 2010 12:40 pm | By Zootoo Editor Flinn D.

Yummy Bone, by Booda, is rope twist... with its own twist. Booda has turned the traditional doggie chew rope with knots at both ends on its proverbial ear. How? By spicing up the yummy bone - quite literally - and giving it a touch of beef flavor.

How does Booda make rope taste like food? Who the heck knows? Not me. I searched the packaging for a list of ingredients, but since the product is categorized as a “toy” and not “food,” none existed. One quality I can attest to is that the beef smell is as strong as advertised, making the rope initially appealing to any red-blooded dog. Whether or not this aroma comes from real beef or artificial flavoring I don’t know, but the toy smells strongly like the real thing.

When I gave Yummy Bone to my dog for the first time, he didn’t know what to make of it right away. I could see his brain working over time to figure out what he had between his paws. Was it a treat? Was it a toy? He wasn’t sure. But the more comfortable he got with the toy, the more he enjoyed ripping the rope into long, beef flavored strings and sucking the delicious flavor off them.

The only downside to the toy is the same drawback inherent in most rope toys. When rope toys get broken down into smaller strands, the bits that your dog swallows can cause digestive problems. However, if you keep an eye on your dog while he is chewing Yummy Bone (or any other rope toy) you can remove the strands that look troublesome and let your pooch get the dental stimulation he is craving.

Pros: Dogs love the smell and taste.

Cons: As with all rope toys, watch for loose strands.

Great, tasty rope toy

posted 4 years ago

Want a twist on the regular rope toy? Here's one for you. The Yummy Bone is flavored! Great to clean teeth, and tasty for your pup. Gin likes these...

Note: Not for strong chewers. If you know your dog demolishes rope toys, not for you.

Pros: It's got flavor!

Cons: Not for string chewers
