My backyard is fenced, but I use this in the front yard sometimes. When I'm doing yardwork or washing the car, I can tie the dogs out front with me. Seamus usually hog-ties himself... This is very durable but the sun has bleached it a bit.

When I travel with my pups to family members houses I use a cider mill tie out. It allows me to give them access to an area where I am at, ie, deck, without having to keep them on a 6' leash. Not everyone has a fence but still needs to provide saftey for their pet. Never leave your pet unattended or outside on a tie out for long periods of time! Comes in handy at picnics and other events! Inexpensive and the protective cover prevents rust of other wear. Be sure to get the rid size and that it is not too heavy for your pup.
