Good For The Right Dog
posted 3 years ago
I purchases one of the large sized ones at Target a few days ago. I do have to say that the Large is more like a generic Medium. So the sizes are a little outta wack. My original intentions for buying this was: When I foster dogs its alot of work to haul a regular LARGE metal crate across a house and up a flight of stairs. So I thought this would be easier to put up when I do have a foster.
This is not for a chewer. I think it is really nice for dogs that just want to go and lie down and sleep in it with the door rolled up. I put my foster dog Jake a medium sized mutt in it, and the first thing he did was roll it over, and figure out how to move it. So I tied it to a desk and just kinda watched what he tried to do. Nothing, so I left him there a little while. When I came back he was fine, but he was more than ready to get out.
If you're trying to crate train your dog, and think this is a cheaper alternative than spending $100+ on a real metal crate, don't buy it. Its worth the money to have a REAL crate, and its nice to have one of these too. I don't really think it has the right to say, "pop open 'kennel". Because its not a kennel, its more of a crate. I think this is good for containing small dogs (chihuahua's/maltese/yorkie) breeds like that. I'm not saying its not good for big dogs, it really just depends on how your dog reacts to it.
Pros: Easily Accesible, Lightweight
Cons: Not for destructive dogs

Good for Emergency
posted 4 years ago
I bought two of these as emergency back up kennels. They live in my car so if there is ever an emergency I will have them for my two dogs. While I usually prefer a hard crate, they are a pain to keepin the car. Should something happen that requires me to make a quick get away I know I can just grab the dogs and bolt and still have a way to house them overnight.
Pros: Excellent back up
Cons: none

Good in a pinch

The Boots and Barkley Pop Open Dog Kennel is great for travel, but if you have a really big dog, then this is not for you. It works well for our lab-pit mix.
Pros: Easy to carry
Cons: Not big enough for a Dane ;0)
