Rawhide chewys

My Basset gets one rawhide chewy per day and she loves them. They are like a reward to her. I feel the texture and chewing helps keep tartar from building up on her teeth. If anyone has any contrary information, I would appreciate hearing from them.
Pros: Helps keep dogs teeth clean
Cons: none that I know of
