We just got these clippers for our shelter animals. They detect if you are too close to the nail quick by flashing a red light and a green light when itis safe to clip. No more guessing or worries about a bleeder. This is especially important when dealing with dark nails on animals. This product is put out by Miracle Corp but soon others will probably be available. Per Smart carries these.

I used this at an event to see if this would help with my dog who has dark nails. You can never find the quick. Unless your pup is overly cooperative, I didn't find it effective.

We used to be too nervous to cut our Pugs nails ourselves...now we use the Quick Finder and have had great success. Have not had one "oops" since we started using them! It's easier if you have a helper to work with you, as my dogs are a little nervous about someone working on their feet. They are getting better each time, though. Since WE are not nervous...they feel better, too!
