Coated and in small doses
posted 4 years ago
Tex (yellow lab) is beginning to show some arthritis and I like this product because I can give him a low dose (81mg) of aspirin and then give him more as needed (up to 4 pills for a max of 324 mg/day). This way I'm only giving him what he needs.
Do not give to cats!
Pros: coated, low doses (give what you need)
Cons: can be hard on stomachs

One of the only human pain meds for dogs
posted 4 years ago
I always keep a bottle or 2 of 'baby' aspirin (81mg tablets) in my dogs' medical basket for those days when they get a little gimp in their step. For general aches and pains aspirin is a safe, non narcotic pain reliever that can be obtained over the counter almost anywhere. However, it has blood thinning effects, so you should be very cautious in using it if your dog has any kind of bleeding issue, wound, surgery, or GI issues. Of course, it's always best to check with a vet if you are not confident in what you are giving.
Pros: great for mild pain relief, cheap and easy to obtain
Cons: shouldn't be used for every medical condition
