This is a great medication to ask your vet about if your cat is eliminating inappropriately due to stress. Medications like this should be used after other options are exhausted, but if this is what it takes to keep your pet from ending up in a shelter it is worth it.

I personally know several pets that have been helped by this medication and others like it.

My vet prescribed amitryptiline to my Weimaraner, who for 4 years suffered from significant separation issues. I tried everything training wise that I knew to do with little success. After keeping her on this medication, then continuing her training, I have finally seen the results I've been dreaming about. This medication does not sedate in any way, and I have never experienced a negative side effect with my dog because of it. It is not as potentially harmful as some medications, so there is no routine blood work required. The effects are so subtle, yet so grandiose. I honestly think this medication helped save the relationship between my dog and me.
