Acepromazine

I have used ace in both my dogs for differing reasons. I can say that it definitely knocks them both on their butts, so it is a very effective tranquilizer. The only thing I don't like about it is its duration: once it is given your dog will be out of commission essentially for the whole day. One of my dog's eyes stay very droopy for at least 8 hours after she takes it, and I can tell her mentation is not quite there.

Pros: definitely does its job

Cons: hangover

It's kind of hard to say if this only mildly works because my dog fights it, or it simply is not as effective as I would like. Nonetheless, this is the only thing that comes close for us.

Pros: Sedates a dog with anxiety issues
