Top loading a great idea

posted 5 years ago

I love the top loading feature. Anyone who has struggled to place a squirming cat into a carrier will appreciate being able to place the cat in from the top. With other hard-sided carriers with one side door, I would have to up-end the carrier on its side opposite the door, and place the cat butt first down into the carrier, while quickly closing and locking the door. And avoid getting scratched or bitten.

The carrying handle on the metal top door is very uncomfortable (non-ergonomic) for the human to hold for a long period of time. I also would not recommend to carry this kennel with an animal that weighed more than 10 pounds as I was concerned that there was too much stress and tension placed on the small handle for the load of the kennel plus the pet. I've placed up to 3 (small)cats in this kennel for very short trips, and would carry the kennel from its sides like carrying a large box instead of carrying by its top handle.

I would not recommend this kennel for air cargo travel as I don't think the construction is sturdy enough. Airlines are not supposed to load anything on top of a kennel with a live animal in it, but you just never know if this kennel will be stacked or something placed on top of it during transit into the plane, or between planes with a connecting flight.

Great concept for an animal carrier, but design and construction needs improvement.

Pros: Top loading feature easier to place cats inside

Cons: Construction quality of top door and dual lock assembly needs improvement

Horrible carrier

posted 6 years ago

My wife taught me about these double door kennels. She hates them bad. Seems the top door gets loose after a while and not stay shut. They had a cat get away once outside on the way to the vet and once in the shelter. All of the top doors are now zip tied shut.

When my wife hates something that bad, it is usually in the trash. But we need carriers, so a way was figured out how to use it.

Pros: none

Cons: top door does not stay

Great carrier

posted 6 years ago

This carrier is great for a cat that is a little hard to handle and can't be pushed through the front door. You can pick up and just drop in. We've used this with feral cats and it works great - you can drop the cat wrapped in the towel both in at the same time. I have never had a problem with the top lid coming open or getting loose like some of the other reviewers. However, I would like to see a thicker more sturdy handle. We ended up putting electrical tape around our handle to make it thicker and easier to pick up. Sometimes, I just carry it from underneath.

Pros: Great for putting pets in through top

Cons: None

Ok kennel

posted 5 years ago

I read some of the previous reviews and would like to say that I have had this kennel for over 4 years and the top latches/locks have not worn out. They are still very sturdy. I like the top entry to this kennel, much easier to get cats in sometimes! I also like the size. It's a good size for carrying a couple of good sized adult cats, or a litter of kittens. The part I like least is the top carrying handle. It is too small and narrow and is only covered by a thin piece of rubber. It is hard to carry with the weight of more than one cat in there. The handle hurts my hand and the rubber tries to slip off.

Pros: 2 door entry

Cons: hate the handle

Not a fan

posted 6 years ago

This is a crate that I wouldn't use for travel. We use them for litters in home but not for travel. We have had the lid come open many times while carrying and that is never good.

Pros: easy to clean

Cons: not great for carrying

I have 3 cats and they love this food. They eat less and walk away with a full belly. Eating less means pooping less and less litter. All around a great choice for my cats.
