We tried this on Maggie with no luck-she kept trying to get it off and would not walk.

In my experience these were difficult to put on and somehow my dog managed to free his snout when he got really charged up. May have been my fault in fitting it, but...
On the good side it does get the dog to look towards you when it starts pulling.

Pros: Good control for not so hard pullers

Cons: Not good for hard core draggers

The gentle leader makes a huge difference when walking a strong or active dog. It makes it much easier to control the dog and also helps keeps the dog calmer. It is comfortable for the dog and although people often think it is a muzzle, your dog can eat and drink when wearing the gentle leader. Fitting it properly is very important so I really recommend viewing the training video on it if you can. The shelter I volunteer at sells gentle leaders. They provide free fitting and demonstration how to walk your dog as well as lending you a copy of the video. The shelter dogs are all trained on gentle leaders and all of the dog walkers are trained how to use them.

I have a 160 lb St. Bernard that when we got him was unable to walk on a leash. I couldn't take him any where in public because he had had no training and was horrible on the leash. I couldnt stop him if I wanted to with just a regular collar. I put the gentle leader on him and he was a totally different dog:) he is now able to go on walks and go any where in public with his gentle leader and I have total control. I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it to any one. I do recommend that you use alot of positive reinforcement with it like any training to keep them from disliking it!

This is a wonderful and functional product! I used it a lot when working with dogs @ my local shelter. Any dog,even the worst walkers, can be trained with the gentle leader and the outcome will be positive! You need to remember to keep the dog on your left and your arms down towards the middle of your body. It may take a bit of practice at first with a difficult walker but in a very short amount of time the dog will realize who is walking who!

Pros: Lightweight, dogs is able to drink and take treats easily with it on,gives control where it's needed.

Cons: Can be a bit confusing to put on @ first...but practice makes perfect!
