I bought this for the nail guard. My dog has black nails so I can't see the quick and this helps protect from cutting off too much at one time. They are easy to use. I can do my dog's nails quickly withouth her getting upset. Like all clippers, these can leave tought edges that need to be filed. I file them after I clip.

Clippers in general break the nail and make it rough and it is sometimes hard to find the quick and make the nail short enough..the peticure files away in thin layers so you can get it smooth and much shorter. But this clipper is fairly easy to use if you dont want to buy the peticure
