Furminator useful only depending on fur ...

posted 6 years ago

This product was extremely tempting, because the video at the pet store showed a Malamute (my breed) being brushed out effortlessly -- every Mal owner's dream! However, when I got it home (MANY $$ later!), I found that it only worked on one dog -- short, dense, plushy coat that is relatively easy to rake out or line-brush anyway. My longer-coated Mal it didn't even make a dent with, and he strenuously objected to the tearing sound it makes as you pull it through the undercoat. On my sensitive girl's coat, I could actually see where it ripped the guard coat instead of pulling out the undercoat.

The cats hated the ripping sound/feel, too. I'm glad people are having good luck with this tool, but if your pet has sensitive skin, or easily torn coat, I'd be careful with it.

Pros: Worked on one dog out of three

Cons: Ripped and tore at hair

It really works!

posted 6 years ago

I just got this today, and already love it. I have a cattle dog (blue heeler), so he has a course topcoat and a fine undercoat. Most brushes just work at the top coat, or I have to brush his hair back, so as to get at the undercoat - which he hates.

I'd been eyeing this in catalogs and the store for a while but had been hesitant to spend $30 or up on it, in case I was not satisfied with it. Today, at our neighborhood pet shop, they got out the sample one to try it on Sydney and I was hooked.

It pulls the loose undercoat right out in a very short period of time, and collects much of the fur in the comb, making it easy to clean up as you go. It also doesn't take as long as how I brushed his undercoat before, so the Sydney is much calmer and relaxed through the whole process.

When using it around the shoulder or other areas with lots of skin, make sure to hold the skin taunt, so that it doesn't scrape over any folds in the skin. I just got the small tool, even though I have a medium/large dog, and I'm glad - gives you much more control in the "tight" areas around the shoulders and legs.

Well worth the investment - especially if it cuts down on trips to the groomers!

Pros: Easy to use and very effective!

Cons: Hesitant about the price at first, but I think it will pay for itself with just a few uses!

Love this on some dogs.

posted 6 years ago

I love this brush. Now might you it only works great, I believe, on medium to long haired dogs. No short haired dogs. I have 2 pit bull mixes and it does not work and they hate it.

Now my lab mix Hrothgar and my rott mix, Harlem (who had passed away in July) loved this brush. We still use it on Hrothgar. Their hair is medium length.

Now I can tell you that you have to brush the hair with the way it layes. Meaning don't brush from the butt to the head. It does not work that way. From head to butt is the correct way.

It will get the undercoat brushed right out. We use this brush about every 2 weeks on Hrothgar and it makes a huge different in us not finding hair all over the house.

We love the FURminator for our lab mix.

Pros: works great on the right hair

Cons: price and not for short haired dogs

Fantastic!!!

posted 6 years ago

This is one of the greatest inventions in the world. It does cost a pretty penny but boy does it work wonderfully on my cats and their shedding problems. Especially here in the south this thing works wonders. My cats actually enjoy it more than I thought they would and people warned me it can be hard on them. But they love it and will walk underneath it and brush themselves on it. Well made and works great!!!!

Pros: Gets the undercoat

Cons: Expensive!!!

The Furminator is Purrfect

posted 6 years ago

We used the Furminator on a cat at the shelter that had some very big mats. Before we tried the Furminator we thought we were going to have to shave her, but the Furminator got the job done. The kitty was purring up a storm, and her fur was soft and beautiful within minutes of combing.

Pros: It Works!

Cons: None
