I have tried a number of different brushes on my heavy-shedding Border Collie/Wooly Mammoth/??? mix dog, and none of them seemed to keep up with the mats, let alone the undercoat hairs that floated around EVERYWHERE. Even worse, brushing my dog pulled his hair and made him halfheartedly try to slink away every time the brush came out. It seemed like only the groomer could do a good job on his coat.

Then I tried an undercoat & dematting rake. My dog was still afraid of brushes, but the rake elminated big clumps of hair quickly, easily, and without pulling my pup's hair. Now he's starting to warm up to the rake and brushing him is not so much a chore as it is a pleasure in seeing him come out of a brushing session with a hair shinier and fluffier than a supermodel in a shampoo commercial.

Pros: Easily removes matts and thick undercoat on long-haired dogs.

After using wire brushes and combs, I thought I was doing a pretty decent job. However, now that we have a second GSD in the house, we were being drowned in fur during their shedding season this fall. The rake worked really well. After using the brush and comb, I tried the rake. I could not BELIEVE how much undercoat came out! This has really cut down on the amount of fur left on the floors, furniture, and carpet.

Pros: Pulled out tons of undercoat!

Cons: NONE

This is such a wonderful product. We fight constantly with the hair in our house from both of our dogs and until using this rake were unable to get a handle on it. This really gets everything...the hair that's being shed, the undercoat, everything. The dogs love it! It's totally stressfree.

I didn't believe that a funny-looking thing like this would really work. I was wrong. My Golden Retriever loves for me to use this rake on her and it does a fine job.

The problem is that this cannot help shedding and if the mats are too large, you are probably better off cutting - carefully - them off.

Cons: Some dogs hate when you make the attempt
