The Fly Free Zone Natural Fly Repellant Dog Collar keeps pests at bay with an effective, sporty design.
March 22, 2011 10:29 pm | By Zootoo Editor Flinn D.
An effective flea and tick collar with a sporty design, the Natural Fly Repellant Dog Collar from Fly Free Zone is a completely natural way to help your dog stay free of pests when romping outdoors.
The collar’s main ingredient is citronella, which calls to mind spring and summer evenings and may make you picture your pooch wearing a citronella candle around his neck. But like those candles that humans use for barbecues, this product helps to keep bugs at bay during the warmer months.
The other main component of the Natural Fly Repellant Dog Collar, phenylethyl, may seem off-putting from its name, but actually occurs naturally in many essential oils. Although this ingredient is natural, some holistic pet advocates point out that particularly sensitive pets may react to any essential oil – so as with any all-natural product, you may want to keep an eye on your dog for the first couple of days of wear to check for any signs of irritation.
Fortunately, our tester dog loved the collar – and its pest control properties were evident during our trial outings in the woods. Post-outdoor checks showed that no bugs had hitched a ride, and he didn’t scratch or bite back at home.
Owners will also enjoy the collar’s sturdy, attractive design. Featuring a green, dotted pattern, the adjustable collar is comfortable and easy to fit.
Bottom line: for the price – around $17 during some online sales – this effective, cute collar is an all-natural, convenient weapon in the war against pests.
Pros: Easy to adjust, comfortable; all-natural ingredients.
Cons: Protects the area around pet's head but may not provide full coverage for the body.
