Many homes have staircases that are not bordered by a wall. In this situation the Y Spindle aids installation of the pressure mounted gates to these types of staircases. The Y Spindle wraps around the baluster to provide a secure installation. On the Gateway (Model G11), use Y Spindles only on the hinge side of the gate. No more than 2 per gate can be used. On the Center Gateway (Models G15 and G35), the Y Spindle can be used on either side of the gate. However, they must be used on the same side. No more than 2 per gate can be used. NOTE: For installation of a pressure-mounted gate on a staircase with balusters on both sides, you will need to use a K10 Installation Kit. I have two of these with the companion G15 gate

I currently have 5 gates, two of them are the G15 which I use on stairs with this spindle device, two are freestanding and the other is pressure mounted. I prefer pressure mounted so I don't have to put holes in my walls. This is the only solution I found for stairs so certainly the best I know of on the market for this purpose.

I leaned on one of mine and now it is hard to align properly as I must have bent it. So I have to be very careful when I close it because one of my dogs can squeeze through if it isn't closed right. Two of my dogs tried to jump over this but it only happened once each. They realized they were lucky they didn't get hurt and never did it again. Too far a fall.

Don't understand "variety of types" as a rating criteria.

Pros: Seems to be the only pressure mounted solution for stairs

Cons: Can't think of any
