Awesome for Sensitive Tummy
posted 5 years ago
I have a very energetic great dane/german shepherd (will be 2 in June '08). He loves this food! The downside is he has a very sensitive stomach, but because of the excellent quality ingredient choices, lack of harmful additives, and the fact that fish/sweet potatoes are easily digested his stomach is fine. When we got him from the shelter, he was a scrawny 6 month old puppy weighing in 15lbs under what his weight should have been. Part of the reason was that he was a stray and poorly fed, but also that he wasn't properly digesting food so it just ran through his upset stomach. This food restored weight, helped solidify his mess, allowed him to gain muscle, as well as give him a vibrant coat. We now switch between this and Chicken Soup to give him a no-upset stomach variety, but this was definitely a life saver when nothing else was working.
Pros: Good Quality Ingredients
Cons: a bit pricey

"Human grade dog food"
posted 4 years ago
Chicken meal and fish meal are the only 2 ingredients considered "not fit for human consumption". Wellness, in my opinion, is the top of the line food. I feed my cat wellness (formula for cats obviously), I recommend wellness to all our customers and my friends, and when I get a dog this is the food I feed my dog as well. I have had only a very small handful of people return to the store (the pet store I work at) that said their cat/dog would not eat the food. I have heard only great things about this food!

Pros: 80+% human grade food
Cons: Possible diarrhea when transitioning food (more likely if you don't mix foods and slowly transition)

Good for allergies
posted 5 years ago
I have tried several foods for my dogs. They are labs and always have the food allergy going on. After a few weeks on Wellness, their coats looked glossy and shiny and they stopped licking their paws.
This is the one we are sticking with!
Pros: very few additives
Cons: none that I can see

Food Allergies
posted 4 years ago
One of our goldens has food allergies. Our vet recommended the Wellness "Simple" diet which includes the Fish and Potato, Duck and Potato and Venison and Potato. (One of these varieties may have rice instead of potato--don't recall which one.) This is the only food he eats at mealtime and we also use the kibble as treats. He loves it!!
Pros: Tasty
Cons: Can be pricey

Pretty good food
posted 4 years ago
This was my dog's first food in his new home. He did well on it, but boy did it make him gassy! I have had him on other fish based foods since then and none have elicited the gas that this food did.
Pros: pretty good quality
Cons: made my dog gassy
