Review on this and also my blue buffalo puppy food
posted 4 years ago
Blue Buffalo: I found this food after doing much research. http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ is a good start for anyone looking to do research on dog foods. And even though blue buffalo isn’t the number 1 pick its somewhere in the middle of the really good foods, and one of the better puppy formulas. Basically I learned how to read labels. I said no more to fillers, and animal byproducts, or corn. This took out what I had been feeding all my animals, my beloved IAMS and science diet. What I also found was that the reason why vets tell you to go with these is that these companies are paying them to say it. Dog/Cat food is labeled by weight before processing. This is something to take into consideration when looking at the food content. Just because a label has meat as the first item it’s taking into account all the water that’s in the meat as well. Sometimes 70% of it can be water, and after it’s been processed and dried the item should actually be somewhere closer to 7 or 8th item on the ingredient list. Most of blue buffalo’s foods has meat as the first two or more items. Also corn has been shown to cause diabetes in animals, and so I’ve gone completely away from it. Blue has one more feature that I like, it is formed in a two step process. The kibble is processed and then they “cool form” the nutrients and antioxidants. This process of ‘cool forming’ the food helps to maintain its nutritional value instead of losing it when the kibble is heated at high temps. Also it is slightly more expensive but all higher end cat food doesn’t require your cat to eat as much since they are getting more protein and nutrition from a smaller amount. The only negative I have is my puppy (on puppy food) has really not the most pleasant gas and semi moist stools, but the cats seem normal. I highly recommend this food. By the way check out their website bluebuff.com and you can get a coupon for a discount.
Pros: No fillers, no animal byproducts, two step process
Cons: no cons, except with the puppy food for my dog his belly gets a little upset
