Thumbs Down for Light Dog Food

posted 5 years ago

I tried Science Diet light dog food at the request of my vet. Our dogs are slightly overweight and we wanted to get them to a healthier weight. While the dogs liked the flavor, the food didn't seem to fill them up for very long. My dogs were always hungry, looking for something to eat. One dog resorted to catching birds as a way to get something to eat. This food also messed up their potty habits. We had poop piles in our house that we never had before. I addressed these concerns with the vet and after giving this some time, he finally suggested returning to the regular food and feeding less. This has helped out tremendously. I would not recommend this food unless the dog was an outside dog.

Pros: Low calories

Cons: dogs pottying in the house
