Higher Middle-Quality Food
posted 5 years ago
As I mention in the review for the regular formula, I had just decided to switch my dogs to grain-free when the contamination crisis hit. Otherwise I'd probably still be using that product and this one.
Meat actually appears 5 times in the ingredients, though the chicken meal and salmon meal are probably barely there. No question that grain outweighs meat in this formula.
Big points for using only whole grains, and not using wheat or corn. Those two seem to be the ones that cause the most allergic sensitivities in dogs and also are the ones that get contaminated.
No beet pulp, but potato fiber is probably just as useless an ingredient, just there as a filler and justified by the product being low calorie (meaning less meat).
But I like the company and still use their grain-free formulas sometimes.
Pros: Meat sources, whole grains, non-risky grains
Cons: Too much grain and filler

Natural Balance Reduced Calorie Formula Ultra Premium Dog Food
posted 5 years ago
I first bought this dog food after reading about it on Petco's website. I love that it has very high quality ingredients and no fillers or by-products. It has three premium quality protein sources - fresh chicken, fresh duck, and lamb meal. It also has fresh carrots, oatmeal, fresh potatos, brown rice, and omega-3 and omega-6 for skin and coat health. It contains no corn, wheat, soy, eggs, dairy or sunflower oil, ingredients which can cause allergic reactions in dogs. The price is very reasonable. It's only slightly higher than a premium dog food like Purina One, but the ingredients are of a much higher quality. And most importantly my dogs will actually eat it! Dry food is never their first choice, but they will eat it willingly when they're hungry. Unlike Iams, which they would have starved to death before they resorted to eating :)
Pros: All natural, high quality ingredients, no by-products, no corn, wheat, soy, eggs, dairy or sunflower oil
Cons: It's only available from pet stores

Natural Balance for Dogs

Vegetarian Formula ~ Brown Rice, Oatmeal, Pearled Barley, Peas & Potatoes.
EXCELLENT PRODUCT ~ It's her very favorite treat. I know it's a dog food, but I put them in her treat bowl and just give her a few at time.
By her responce you'd think I was giving her Beef Jerky or something, she can't get enough.
Dick Van Pattern's Natural Balance Reduced Calorie Formula for Dogs
Pros: She loves the taste and can't get enough
Cons: NONE
