Turkey Necks are a GREAT Treat!
posted 5 years ago
I have been feeding frozen turkey necks to my two greyhounds for a few years now. I get these frozen turkey necks from our local Jennie-O plant which sells a case of them for $4. Considering they are $3.69 EACH at the pet store, I feel really lucky to be able to get such a great deal. I keep them in the freezer until I'm ready to feed them and then I take them out of the package, run some hot water over them just to get rid of the icy coating, and give them to my dog on an old bed sheet. Each package contains 2-3 turkey necks and I usually give them in lieu of a meal. They spend about 45 minutes chewing, chomping, and gnawing on the necks until they have totally eaten them. After they are done, they are usually a bit thirsty but very satisfied! The best part is their teeth look great! The action of eating these hard varied shaped necks really does a great job scraping the tarter and plaque off their teeth. So it's the best of all worlds - a great distraction, inexpensive, and cleans their teeth! Eight paws and two thumbs up for turkey necks!
Pros: Inexpensive, great distraction, cleans teeth great!
Cons: Can be messy, takes up room in freezer
