My Flying Ace

posted 6 years ago

The first time I flew with my dog, I had intended to buy a soft-sided carrier and put her under the seat. After I measured her and talked with the airline people, I realized she was too big to travel that way and would have to go as baggage.

I bought a Sky Kennel from the airline on the morning of our flight. The airline people checked it for size, I put a pad and a chew bone in the bottom and in she went. The crate is strong and very well constructed. It has a wire door and windows on either side for ventilation and so that the animal can see out, and circular air vents in the back panel.

There is a removable water bowl on the door of the kennel, which they filled for me. They also gave me a plastic bottle of water to put inside the kennel with my dog. We were changing planes and the extra water was to be used to refill her bowl, should it be necessary.

Except for my nervousness about having my dog in the cargo hold, the trip was uneventful. I watched from the window as her crate was put on board our connecting flight and could see her face as she moved up the conveyor belt into the hold. She seemed to be having a wonderful time.

She has flown with me on several occasions since. I take her to the airport on a leash and when it is time to go into her crate, she trots right in. I am very happy that I bought the Sky Kennel and especially happy that I bought it from the airline. I have enough things to handle when traveling, without worrying about the security of a crate.

Pros: solid and secure

Cons: none

Held up well

posted 5 years ago

I bought each of my dogs one of these when we lived across the country from our families, and we used them to fly our dogs from Florida to Texas one holiday season. The crates held up very well. There are numerous screws holding the top and bottoms together, the plastic material is hard, thick, and very sturdy. There is a complex locking mechanism on the door which makes it difficult for crafty dogs to pick. I appreciate the amount of ventilation holes worked into the design. Since using it for air transport I have kept it together for crate training, and it has continued to work well. The largest size weighs a good bit- maybe 40 or 50 lbs- and is very bulky, so be prepared for that.

Pros: lots of ventilation, sturdy plastic material, good locking mechanism on door

Cons: heavy, large size has to be taken apart to fit through doorways

Excellent structure

This carrier is so good. My dogs readily get into it on their own. Sometimes I feed them in it so they won't steal each other's food.

Pros: great for lots of things

Cons: none

Jake's 'room'

posted 5 years ago

Jake loves his 'room'! He does have to stay in there when we're at work, but many times when we're at home, that's where we'll find him. Also- when he's grabbed something he's not supposed to have, he runs in there! It's his safe place. We leave the door open when we're home so he can get in or out as he wants. He often lays with his head laying on the 'doorway'. Getting him to go in when we leave is no problem (since he gets a treat!). It gives him plenty of room to move around if he wants to change positions.

Pros: Room enough to move around

Cons: None

Strong and sturdy

This is a very good product. Strong and sturdy. But a bit Pricey but all in all it is well worth the price. Why buy cheap when it comes to your animals. My pets are considered part of my family.

Pros: strong

Cons: Pricey
