The Ruff Wear DoubleBack Collar stands up to strong pullers.
August 25, 2011 7:20 pm | By Zootoo Editor Melba B.
If your dog's a strong puller like mine, the collar that connects him to his leash must be just as strong. That's why I checked out the Ruff Wear DoubleBack. Billed as a collar "built with security in mind," it's made with tubular nylon webbing — which is the same type of nylon used for climbing harnesses. I knew that meant the DoubleBack was built to last — and it is.
Another wonderful feature of the Ruff Wear DoubleBack Collar is a small D-ring for tags, and a larger high-strength aluminum ring for leash attachment. That means no rattle —and less wear and tear, and I've found that the unique shape of the leash ring makes it much easier to clip onto than other collars.
If your dog loves to get wet, like mine does, you'll also appreciate that the DoubleBack Collar dries quickly and doesn't stink. Available in several colors, the collar stays bright and doesn't fade. We've had ours for almost two years and it's still going strong.
Drawbacks? There's one. But it could be a big one, especially if you're considering the DoubleBack Collar for a big dog with big pull. The collar gets its name from the option to fold back the extra length of the collar and thread it through the buckles for a snugger, more secure fit. Unfortunately, even when "doubled back", I've discovered that the collar often slips and becomes loose on walks. Not quite bomb-proof. And, when "doubled back" the collar is not easy to take on and off, but this is not a serious drawback, unless you're someone who removes the collar while your dog is inside.
Simply put, this is a well-made collar, looks nice and stands up to nearly anything you or your dog throw at it. But at $20, you'll also pay a premium for it.
Pros: Built to last; can withstand strong pullers; dries quickly.
Cons: Collar can become loose and can be difficult to take on and off.
