We got this when our dog was quite young. It allowed her to feel a lot of freedom while still leashed, since so little of NYC will let the dogs run unleashed. It was really useful at the beach. It was also good for training.
The bad part is that the tape style can cause small cuts if it rubs up against you. My friend and I took our two dogs to the beach and we both got lots of little cuts from the leashes.

I have used one of these leashes for over a year now. Bought it and said it would work for dogs up to 77 lbs. My dog is 70 lbs. It has not failed. Great when I walk my dog and do not want her going potty right next to me. Gives her room to run ahead of me. I know, not the best when training your dog to walk beside you, but I want her to have fun when we are on our walks. My dog also has problems with other dogs and I will sometimes have to pull her in another direction away from them, so I have tested its strength to put up with a lunging dog and it has never failed. As for whether it will continue to work in the future, only time will tell.

I prefer classic leashes to retractable. Retractable leashes make it difficult to controll your dog and can be dangerous in when walking along sidewalks or in congested areas where leash controll is a must.

These leashes are good if your dog likes to roam. If you let them get too long they can get tangled with other leashes.

Cons: Easy to get tangled up because its longer than other leashes
