Is there a 12-step program for a Greenie addiction

posted 5 years ago

My beagle lab mix Kismet is utterly addicted to Greenies. Every evening when I feed my dogs their dinner, Kismet will either take a few bites of dinner or not eat at all and sit next to me staring hard at me or uttering little demanding yips. And I know it's for a Greenies. Only after she's had her Greenie will she eat the rest of her dinner!

Greenies are intended as dental chews, and they do indeed keep her teeth sparkling and her breath fresh, but I have perforce gone to using them as daily treats. I have used her addiction to my advantage in training her all sorts of tricks, but giving her her a daily fix is a little bit expensive. Given that she weighs 50 pounds, she really needs the Regular size greenies as her optimal size, but to save a little money, I have gone to the petites, especially since I have two dogs and you can't give a Greenie to one dog without the other. I personally also think Greenies smell delicious, love opening a fresh box of them.

Greenies has reformulated their product so they are chewier and more flexible than the original product, so there is little danger of choking hazard, and that in my opinion would only occur if you gave a small dog a larger size Greenie. It's always best to keep an eye on your dog when its chewing on a treat in any case.

Overall, this is an excellent product; they're a bit expensive as a daily treat, but given how much my dogs enjoy them, I think they'll well worth the cost.

Pros: flavorful, healthy, good for the teeth

Cons: they're almost too good: dog can't get enough of 'em, so a little pricey as an every-day treat.

Just received a sample yesteday!

posted 5 years ago

We got a petite greenie yesterday for dogs that are 5 to 15 lbs in the mail, as a sample. I gave it to my yorkie in an effort to watch him with it because it is so small, i was afriad he would eat hunks off of it and choke or something.

I think i prefer my small dogs with bigger treats so i know thye won't bite off pieces! My yorkie ended up "hiding" it somewhere because I did not see either of them chewing on it!! I am sure I will find it in his crate or under the couch soon!

Pros: very small, good for teeth

Cons: very small

Best Treat

posted 5 years ago

My dog knows exactly where these treats are kept in the house, and that she gets one a day. She does not let me forget either, she will wait by them until she gets one. She gets so excited when she receives it that she starts to cry out of joy. It is the cutest thing. Although these treats are a little pricier then others, it is well worth it.

Pros: Enjoyable and a perfect size.

Cons: Expensive

Great size Greenies for Small Dogs

posted 5 years ago

My dogs love their Greenies. We found them at a great price on dog.com. They run the Greenies on sale at great prices. My dogs get one to two Greenies a week, and that is keeping their teeth and breath much better. Although brushing is still needed, these are wonderful to feed your babies. My MinPins love the petites. The size is just right.

Pros: Great for puppy teeth and breath

Cons: Parents need to stay with pet while they eat, just to be safe

My Pekey loves these!

posted 5 years ago

My Peke loves these greenies. She is blind but she sits there and chews on these between her little paws just like her brother does! It is very satisfying to find things that make her happy and demonstrate 'normal' dog behavior. thank you greenies for a healthy, tasty treat for my furbabies.

Pros: Healthy treat, small enough for my dog

Cons: can be a lttle messy with long haired dogs, don't feed to many can cause upset tummy
