American Rawhide Peanut Butter Basted Twists

American Rawhide, in peanut butter flavor, by Made in America, is an 8 pack of rawhide twists that promises a long lasting, flavorful chewing experience for your pooch. The marketplace for rawhide chews is glutted with product at the moment, with lots of fancy new twists (no pun intended) being rolled out in varying flavors, ingredients and textures.

American Rawhide sticks to the basics, and doesn’t brag that it is made from all or even mostly natural ingredients. Instead, the label states that the product is made from a “combination of artificial and natural flavors.”

American Rawhide is nothing new in the canon of rawhide twists, and what you see is what you get – a simple, traditional dog toy that will satisfy your dog’s natural chewing instinct as well as stimulate his gums. For years, rawhide chews have been using ingredients that remove plaque buildup and tarter and American Rawhide is no exception.

When I gave our tester dog an American Rawhide chew for the first time he devoured it eagerly in a couple of hours. The jury is still out on how “easy” it is for dogs to digest rawhide chews. Every brand claims that their product is the one that has solved this problem but a healthy dose of skepticism seems the best bet here. While rawhide chews have not been known to cause serious problems with dogs’ digestive tracts, they have been known to cause mild to severe indigestion so it’s a good idea to keep an eye on your pooch while he’s chewing.

Pros: Dogs will love the taste and the texture.

Cons: As with all rawhide products, supervise your dog while he's chewing.
