Great Book
posted 5 years ago
This book was one of the first I had read about animals and emotions. It truly opened my eyes. The authors' insights and stories shed light on a grey area for many individuals.
Pros: Numerous examples of the emotional lives of animals
Cons: Very sad at times

I loved this book
posted 4 years ago
I read this a long time ago but just thinking of some of the stories brings a tear to my eyes.
It continues to this day but some people are always looking for ways to differentiate people from our animal brothers and sisters. Tool-making, language, presence of a soul, etc. Emotions are another possible difference.
But probably not. I know my animals get depressed when we are not around and you should see how animals recently surrendered at shelters behave if you don't think animals don't have feelings.
The stories compiled in this book are excellent and demonstrate the truth that we are not so different than our mostly four-legged friends. I teared up a few times reading the stories of loss and the mourning that goes on in the animal kingdom.
Pros: A great read
Cons: Reading is never bad... unless it's John Grisham, ooh, I hate...

I'm glad you reminded me.

I have been reminded to return this book to a friend who allowed me to borrow it. Thanks. Like many peolple in the field I truly believe that animals feel emotions. Mr. Moussaieff and Ms. McCathy make very believable cases and are quoted in a television program I watched about elephants' communication.
Pros: Well written and supported my beliefs that animals feel more than we give them credit for.
Cons: None

I loved this book

I just loved this book. I have long believed that emotions are not exclusive to humans, especially since I know that my dogs love me, and not just because I feed them. This books gives you a greater appreciation for all of the wonderful animals that share the earth with us.
Pros: Very informative
Cons: None

I thought this book was a good blend of scientific and emotional research. The author did a great job of explaining the differences and then delving into the lives of the animals.
I gave this book to several friends for Christmas one year. A great read!!
Pros: well written
Cons: short
