Fel-O-Vax FIV Cat Medicine, 50 x 1 ml SKU: 007FTD13-50 [printable] Fel-O-Vax® FIV Fort Dodge Feline Immunodeficiency Virus Vaccine Killed Virus For subcutaneous vaccination of healthy cats 8 weeks of age or older as an aid in the prevention of infection with feline immunodeficiency virus. Efficacy was demonstrated in cats that received three doses of vaccine and were challenged one year post vaccination with a heterologous FIV strain. In one study the vaccine protected 67% of the vaccinates against infection (any cat that showed evidence of integration of the viral genome into its white blood cells was considered infected) while 74% of the controls became persistently viremic. In a more recent one year study, the vaccine protected 84% of the vaccinates against infection while 90% of the controls became persistently viremic. Dose: Inject one 1 mL dose subcutaneously using aseptic technique. Administer 2 additional doses at intervals of 2 to 3 weeks. Annual revaccination is recommended. Caution: Store in the dark at 2° to 7°C (35° to 45°F). AVOID FREEZING. SHAKE WELL. Use entire contents when first opened. In case of anaphylactoid reaction, administer epinephrine. Thimerosal, neomycin and polymyxin B added as preservatives. Cat & Kitten>Feline Vaccines

To Give This Vaccine or Not To?

posted 6 years ago

Two of my cats have been vaccinated with this vaccine against Feline AIDS. Two have not. Though I'm still waffling, I probably won't give the two unvaccinated cats this vaccine. I still have some concerns about it. I will say that it always concerned me that the two vaccinated cats will now test positive for Feline AIDS forever -- just another reason to make sure I microchipped them -- I would be concerned if they were to end up in a vet's office or shelter and test positive. (Just hoping that someone will realize they are my pets because they're chipped and not take any drastic action!) My new vet also didn't seem crazy about giving this vaccine because it's efficacy is still in question -- and it's only being made by one drug manufacturer.....and now, that I have the Purrfect Fence installed and no one is a free-range cat anymore, just made me think we'll skip this vaccine -- at least for now.

Pros: Thought It Was Right at the Time

Cons: Not Sure I'll Give This Again

To Vaccinate or not to Vaccinate?

posted 8 years ago

I would strongly encourage any cat owner who allows their cat outside to vaccinate for FIV, however having the FIV/Feluek testing prior to vaccinating is always the best option. With so many stray cats turning up positive for FIV protecting your cat from it is a good idea.

Pros: Having a healthy cat

Cons: Slim vaccination reaction

Iams ProActive Health Multi-Cat Chicken & Salmon Cat Food

I have 3 cats and they love this food. They eat less and walk away with a full belly. Eating less means pooping less and less litter. All around a great choice for my cats.
