Cats will bat but don't chew

posted 5 years ago

My cats did bat this toy around a few times, but quickly lost interest. They would rather play with furry or feathery toys. I feel that the little catnip inserts can easily be dislodged from the toy and pose a choking hazard for young kittens. The tail of the mouse is easily chewed or broken off, and that presents another choking or ingestion hazard.

I think that this toy was really designed with dogs in mind. I tried putting a cat treat inside, but the odor of the plastic does seem to mask the treat smell, and the cat thought it was too much work to get the treat out, so gave up. This type of dental health toy with treat inside supposedly works well on dogs, but I don't think that many cats like to chew on plastic.

The manufacturer claims that the plastic isn't toxic, but human consumers are being discouraged from using baby bottles and other plastic bottles with the plastic symbol of 7 inside the recycle triangle. Have no idea what type of plastic is used in making this product.

My cats prefer a furry, catnip mouse to toss around and chase rather than this plastic one.

Would not recommend this, and it is a bit pricey for a toy mouse.

Pros: Novel idea to get cats to chew for dental health

Cons: Plastic texture doesn't appeal to cats for chewing

No interest.

posted 5 years ago

I, too, thought this sounded like a good idea since one of our cats loves to chew and loves catnip. Neither cat had any interest in the toy, though.

Pros: Good idea.

Cons: Our cats ignored these.
