Acid reducer for cats
posted 8 years ago
We were told by a vet hospital to give our cat 1/4 tablet of Famotidine [10mg] for Acid Indigestion. It is a generic name fpr Pepcid AC. We give it to him when he cries after eating. It seems to settle him for quite a few days. You may have to give it for a few days in a row. Of course, check with your vet to rule out other problems. We cover it in butter.
Pros: easy to give
Cons: owner monitors

Effective and inexpensive
posted 7 years ago
We had great luck giving 1/4 tablet to each of our three CRF cats. It was easy to find in almost any drug store, easy to quarter, and small enough to fit into a gelcap with other meds for an "all-in-one" administration. At higher levels of acid, though, it became ineffective and we had to switch meds.
Pros: Helps ease stomach upset from CRF
Cons: May not work in all cases

Good for upset tummys

My cat, PJ, had to take this. His stomach would get upset easily. It was a side-effect of chronic renal failure. We had to switch to this after the prescribed medication drove him nuts. This did a great job without the side effect of craziness.
Pros: very effective
Cons: should be vet supervised
