Another great additive to kibble for weight loss plus aids with stomach issues!
posted 4 years ago
Pumpkin is another staple of my dog pantry since it can be used for both diarrhea and constipation as well as a filler for weight loss diets. Make sure you're buying the 100% pumpkin though! Sure, your dogs will LOVE the easy pumpkin pie mix, but it's got added sugar and spices which negate the health benefits.
Suzuka, who hates the low salt green beans, loves pumpkin, so I added this to her kibble for a long time. Unfortunately, the small cans don't last very long in my household, and it's become harder and harder to find the larger cans in the Austin area.
I also used pumpkin when I had a foster dog with chronic stomach issues. While it didn't completely fix Stinger's problems (he turned out to have food allergies, some hardy worms, and other stuff going on), the pumpkin certainly helped with his horrific diarrhea.
Essentially, canned pumpkin is something I think that dog owners should have on hand or know where to get as sort of a "first aid" remedy. For non-emergency digestive situations, it can be a great help and cheaper than a trip to the vet.
Pros: Available at most grocery stores, most dogs like it
Cons: Can be expensive, hard to find larger cans

Great for pies or for kittens
posted 4 years ago
We always keep this in in case it was snowing and we wanted to whip up a pie or pumpkin bread, but, we also learned to use this when our outdoor cat had kittens!! She was never really in the house, and we tried to catch her to get her spayed, but we were too late and she had kittens, and then left them at our house!!! She did not really nurture them, and we had to findfood to give us kittens. My mom suggested the canned pumpkin, and it helped the kittens stomachs a lot!!!
Pros: buy at super market, last long time, good for kittens
Cons: none!

Works great
posted 4 years ago
I have a cat who periodically suffers from constipation. Pumpkin always seems to help the problem. One tablespoon as a treat for a few days is all it takes. And he likes the pumkin taste as well. I have also spoke about pumkin to many other cat and dog owners and they have also indicated that pumkin has worked well for them and their pet likes the taste. I recently learned that it will not only help with constipation but also when the stool is running.
Pros: works great for constipation
Cons: none

A must have for kitten fosters
posted 4 years ago
I've used this product when fostering bottle baby kittens. Often times kittens get the runs pretty badly. Canned pumpkin hardens the stool and is very good for them too. It is also very inexpensive and lasts for a long time. I always have this product on hand during kitten season and recommend it highly.
Pros: Helps with the runs!
Cons: None

Amazingly effective

I had no idea this would actually work. We were told to give pumpkin to one of our dogs when they were bound up. This cleared it right up!!
Pros: Works great when your dog is bound up
Cons: none
