This SmartyKat scoop costs about twice that of a "cheap" litter scoop, but is probably at least twice as strong/durable--worth paying double the cost.

The hard plastic is in one piece and the handle is not likely to break off (as they often do in the cheaper versions). The sides are high, especially near the back of the scoop, making it unlikely that the litter will spill over the sides. The slots, however, are somewhat too wide for some clean-up jobs, especially if you use scoopable litter (which I do).

I think this scoop is better than the cheaper versions. It could be improved if the slots weren't so wide.
