They LOVE it!

posted 3 years ago

I thought about using this product for a long time. After a while, I broke down in favor of my "kids". I got into pressure canning meat in preparation to "give it a go", which gives you an idea of my determination. The recipe online called for home-canned meat with the powder mix and a raw egg yolk, which is then blended or food processed to a smooth (almost liquid) consistency. I made the recipe exactly as described.
The moment of truth: Will they even like it? I know from feeding them various dry and wet cat foods that they can be a bit finicky; so while I was fairly confident (hopeful?), I could not be so sure. I decided to do the "finger feeding" they recommended to get a cat to try something new. I got a spoonful of the stuff and put some on my finger. I got mobbed!
To say they liked it would be an understatement. After giving each a full serving of the recipe, there was hardly any evidence that I had even given them anything. Empty bowls all around! They even followed me around for a bit, in all likelihood thinking I might have some more for them. I can honestly say they don't do that when I give them stuff out of a can.
Needless to say my wife and I are both quite excited about this development.
I know the other posters probably used raw meat as per the package, but using home canned meat is fabulous according to my cats, and is worth a try if you have your own home canning equipment. I will probably use raw meat at some point just to see how they like that.
N.B.: The recipe as given online for using home-canned meat says to just use the meat fresh out of the just opened mason jar, but one should always boil the meat for 10-20 minutes before using to be safe. One should not risk giving your loved one(s) a dose of botulism by accident.

Pros: More natural. Healthier.

Cons: Have to make the recipe yourself

Cats would not eat this

posted 5 years ago

After my cat had a urinary blockage, we decided to switch both cats to homemade food so I bought some of this Instincts powder to supplement it. The cats would eat the ground up chicken plain, but not with this powder mixed in. They completely refused to eat it. After this we switched to Before Grain canned food which they like.

Pros: Very healthy

Cons: Tastes bad, according to my cats; expensive
