Aerokat Asthma Medication Inhalation Chamber

posted 5 years ago

This is the best aerosol chamber so far. It is easy to use - you put the inhaler in one end, put the mask over your cat's face and administer the medication (e.g. Flovent or Albuterol) with one hand. The best thing about this inhaler is that is has a valve that lets you count your cat's breaths, so the cat can't fool you into thinking she is breathing when she is actually not (my cat tries this for the first couple of seconds). If the flap is not moving, the cat holds its breath. If the flap goes all the way down, the cat takes a full breath, if it goes down halfway, she takes half a breath, etc.

Cleaning: Clean once a week with mild soap and water. This is best done overnight, parts need to air dry.

It may take a while for your cat to accept it. If your cat is on pred, start about 2-3 weeks before the last pill, so your cat can get used to it. Sunny was really scared and ran away the first week. The second week, he was ok with he mask over his nose, but not with the puffing. Had to puff and then put the mask on his face. He started out with 3-4 breaths. After about 2 months, he came on my lap and sat down to get his medication and always gets a treat, after he takes his medication.

Pros: Easy to Use, Valve that lets you count your cats breaths

Cons: Cat may take a bit to accept

Saves my kitty's life

posted 5 years ago

When I learned my young cat had asthma, I was very distressed to learn he'd need to take steroids. Our vet recommended the Aerokat for his inhaled steroid and his rescue inhaler. It fits easily with standard inhaler types and my cat acclimated to it quite well. Without this, pets would need to rely on oral steroids, which would really do a number on their kidneys and liver. Aerokat helps me administer meds which increase my cat's quality of life and and potentially save his life in the event of an attack. Very recommended for anyone who has an asthmatic cat.

Pros: Fits easily over mouth and nose

Cons: none

Works well

I've had to use this once on my cat Jessie. It was very easy to use and suprisingly she cooperated. She got the medicine okay but I think the asthma atatack had progressed too far so ended up having to go to the vet anyways. Next time I'll hopefully catch her sooner.

Pros: easy to use

Cons: cost, have to send to Canada for it

I didn't think our cat would cooperate with this, but it was easy to use and after a few days he was totally into it. Fit simply over his mouth, and was sized so that I could hold it and the cat and still press the inhaler

Pros: easy to use

Cons: none

We have a cat with asthma at the shelter. We use this for his treatments and it is very easy to do. Fits right over his nose and mouth and he's finished with his meds before he knows it.

Pros: easy to use

Cons: none
