Can't have enough at a shelter in summer
posted 4 years ago
This is a very valuable tool in raising young kittens without a mother, and we can't get enough during summer at the shelter. There always seems to be kittens that are too little to be away from mom, and I believe this is one of the best formulas made especially for kittens. It's really necessary to have a milk substitute for those young babies (not regular milk, obviously!) and this is the gold standard product. Other brands are probably just as good, but if you say KMR, everyone knows what you're talking about. It's easy to mix, and kittens usually love it.
Pros: Absolutely necessary if raising orphans
Cons: expensive!

Must have for nursing kittens
posted 4 years ago
If you need to feed young kittens under 4 weeks of age, this is a must have. It can be purchased in powder or ready to use liquid. The ready to use liquid is a little easier, but the powder is less expensive and once it is mixed, it needs to be used within 24 hours. I have never found a kitten who did not enjoy the taste of the KMR. Once they are weaning from the bottle, the KMR can also be mixed with canned cat food to help the transition from bottle to solid food. The KMR gives the kittens all the nutrition they need and is gentle on the stomach.
Pros: gives young kittens the nutrition they need
Cons: expensive, must be used quickly

Replacement kitten milk
posted 4 years ago
A few years ago, I rescued a kitten that was only a day old. Nast neighborhood kids were pulling the newborn kittens out of the nest--and I found one remaining.
It was late Saturday evening--so I rushed to a local pet store to see what I could find for my little "Izzy". The milk repacement I found was excellent.
On mOnday, I took Izzy to my vet, he said I was doing everything correctly, and that what I was feeding Izzy was full of nutrients and one of the best "milks" available.
Izzy is now five years old and helathy and loveable.
Pros: kitten seemed to enjoy it
Cons: expensive

Orphaned kitten
posted 5 years ago
I have used KMR many times to feed my orphaned kitten fosters. I prefer the powder because often when I use the can it is such a large volume that I don't use it up quickly enough in the reccommended time frame and end up throwing a lot away.
Pros: easy to prepare
Cons: wasteful
