20th century unguent still good
posted 4 years ago
I grew up seeing Vaseline petroleum jelly in my parents' medicine cabinet and on my grandma's farm. Her farm dog's muzzle was always bitten up by gnats in the summer, and she'd smear the jelly on to keep them away. It helped his nose heal, and it's so bland and nearly odorless, the dog never protested its application.
Pros: Bland, odorless, inexpensive
Cons: Byproduct of the petroleum industry
