Brushing the coat is the most important step of the grooming process and for best results should be done daily. For short coated breeds, brushing keeps the skin clean. For long coated breeds, brushing helps remove hair before it mats. Directions: Brush in the direction of hair growth. Start at the rear of your cat and work your way forward. Brush the coat before bathing as water may tighten any mats. for tougher matting problem, use a dematter before brushing.

The Whisker City Hard Slicker Brush combines effective shedding control with easy hair clean-up.

July 28, 2011 11:36 am | By Zootoo Editor Emily S.

In some ways, the Whisker City Hard Slicker Brush – with its smooth, molded, pink and white plastic handle – looks more like something you’d use for your own beauty routine than a pet-grooming implement. But don’t be seduced by its appearance; this brush is all business when it comes to keeping your cat looking spiffy.

The two-tiered, self-cleaning grooming head is fitted with rows of spiky metal bristles, packed close together, which makes this brush an ideal choice for keeping long-haired cats tangle-free. It also works well on short-haired cats like our tester cat Francie; although she is a sucker for the softer touch of Kong’s Zoom Groom when it comes to getting an all-over cleaning, she loves having her cheeks brushed with the Whisker City hard slicker, and every time I take it out, presents her face to the bristles with such vigor that it occurs to me she might be enjoying herself a bit too much. (A warning: these bristles are sharp, so take care to keep the brush well away from your cat’s eyes when grooming).

The best part of Whisker City’s hard slicker brush is that it’s self-cleaning. Press a button on the back of the grooming head and its two layers separate, lifting the collected fur to the surface for easy removal.

Pros: Self-cleaning design makes post-grooming clean-up easy; appropriate for long or short-haired cats.

Cons: None.
