PETCO's Finishing Brush is a solid, affordable grooming tool.

December 9, 2010 10:19 am | By Zootoo Editor AmyLi

The Bristle Finishing Brush by PETCO is a solid, good brush that is most likely to fit the grooming needs of short-haired cats; long-haired cats with thick coats might have to look elsewhere to find a brush that has what it takes to get at all their knots and tangles.

But then again, the finishing brush only advertises itself as such – a means to add shine and polish to your cat’s cat, to help distribute healthy coat oils and to stimulate skin. Its thin, plastic bristles are said to be ideal for cats with sensitive skin, who couldn’t stand a metal comb coming at them.

Given that description, the finishing brush does its job – and looks pretty cute while doing so, too, with its little paw print design imprinted on the bristles. The rubber handle makes it easy for owners to get a firm grip on the brush and stay comfortable while grooming their cats.

And most cats that don’t generally shy away from being brushed or combed shouldn’t mind this treatment, either. The brush doesn’t have the ability to dig deep into a cat’s coat, but it is functional and will provide a nice shine to a cat or kitten’s lackluster coat.

It also does a fairly impressive job of helping to decrease shedding, if used regularly, several times a week, depending on your cat’s propensity to shed and amount of hair. The bristles aren’t extremely soft, so the brush might not be a great fit for a very young kitten. But for others, this brush will likely be regarded as a useful, reliable and reasonably priced grooming tool.

Pros: Reasonably priced, good for cats who shy away from metal combs.

Cons: Plastic bristle may be too hard for cats with sensitive skin; not suitable for long-haired cats.
