I have had my dog for almost six months and the only time she had her nails done under my care was at the groomers. I went for this product because of the guard that makes sure you only take of the nail in one or two clippings, so not to get the quick. If she jerked or got scared while we were doing her nails I would be safe and her, uninjured. It went well. I don't know if her nails are just overly dry or the clippers could be a bit sharper, but there was some splitting on her nails on the ends that I had not seen in my previous dogs.

If I can get my dog to sit still these clippers work great! The guard makes me feel much better about clipping and not getting the quick. I have had these for several years and they are still almost as sharp as the day I bought them.
