My cats found a way around it.

I bought this gate to keep my cats on my indoor patio. My smart boys went on the outside of the rail and around the gate. This would work great in a door, but it didn't work on my patio.

Good gate

This Easy Step gate was a great solution for our house. We needed to block the dogs in the mud room, but still be able to use the room every day. It has worked great and was a good price in the stores.
Pros: easy to use every day
Cons: has popped out of the doorframe when my big dog jumped against it
