I have two of these mats in the house. One is under the dog's food and water dishes. The other I actually use under my small combo water cooler/fridge because the tiny fridge section sometimes discharges a little water. This mat does the job!

The lip on the mat keeps any spilled water on the mat and off the wood floor. The mat itself is very easy to clean because it's heavy-duty plastic. And, it's reasonably priced. The only down-side is, if a pretty significant amount of water is spilled from the dog's dish, you wish the lip of the mat was just a little higher.
