We mainly use Drontal if we see evidence of tapeworms (we use pyrantel if no tapes are noted). I wish we had the funds in our shelter to give every cat that comes into our care a dose of Drontal but we are somewhat limited. Drontal is rather expensive for us to give to every cat that comes into our shelter. It is highly effective at getting rid of a variety of types of worms. Most of the time Drontal is fairly easy to give. But if the cat tastes the pill at all, it is all over. They will gag, drool and foam at the mouth. The stuff must taste horrible. I aim for the back of the throat and do my best not to let them chew it but I am not always successful.

Drontal for cats is the only effective way to prevent or eliminate a tapeworm infestation in cats. Over the counter medications simply do not work.

Cons: only available through a veterinarian

A must at our shelter. Highly recommend this for any shelter.

I like this because you only have to give one pill a month and it takes care of all the worms. The price is high, i am glad i do not have to buy for our shelter. The cats do not mind me giving them this.
