My black cat disappears behind furniture and it's impossible to find her, and then we think she got out of the house and panic. So while I've never "belled" a cat before, this works great for keeping track of her.
They're also good for scaring off birds--and therefore saving them from capture--if you do have an outdoor cat. Outside cats are decimating the songbird population.

A bell and an ID tag is a must i think. This bell is a beautifully marbled colorful ringer. I can hear it really well so I know what she's up to and where she is most of the time. It's a really good product.

I have indoor kittys who I like to keep indoors,but I I.D. them and bell them just in case they sneek out. I can hear them hiding from me then. The sound is a nice ring not too harsh.
