Pledge Fabric Sweeper is a must-have for cat owners.

July 11, 2010 10:19 pm | By Zootoo Editor CynthiaLo

When you live in a house with six cats, a constant supply of sticky rollers is a critical necessity. I recently added the Pledge Fabric Sweeper for Pet Hair to my fur-fighting arsenal. This is the tool for those jobs that are just too big for your trusty sticky roller. It is about the size of a chalkboard eraser and has two rollers, kind of like a squeegee, that are covered in short stiff fibers. You roll it back and forth, the fibers lift hair and then self clean, depositing hair into a collection chamber that doubles as the sweeper's handle.

The manufacturer's directions caution “Do not try to empty or disassemble disposable sweeper.” Really? They want you to buy a new one when this one is full? Personally, I take this warning as seriously as I do the “do not remove” tag on my mattress. They won't like me for saying this, but I found you could slip a Q-tip between the rollers and pull out the big wad of fur that collects in the plastic chamber. It actually really annoys me they didn't design it so the plastic chamber just pops off.

Still, I wouldn't be without this awesome tool. While it's not really intended for clothes, I use it on wool coats. It's awesome for bedspreads, couches, curtains, throw pillows and cat beds. In fact, I have two, and secretly fear deeply that it will suffer the same curse as my perfect lipstick shade, which inevitably is always discontinued right after I discover it.

This product should be standard issue for every cat lover, battling bravely in those endlessly fuzzy trenches.

Pros: Durable sweeper can handle jobs that other sticky rollers can't.

Cons: Product doesn't work as well on clothes; design could be modified for easy disassembling.

Black hair on white couches

posted 4 years ago

For a cheaper option this product works well! I was nervous when I first opened it up because I thought it looked a little cheap. However, once I started using it, it picked up most of the thick black hair that my German Shepherd leaves all over our white couches.

Pros: Works well

Cons: Does leave some hair behind
