100% Quail Was About A 10% "Hit"
posted 3 years ago
When I saw the B.G. (Before Grain) canned cat food in a Greensburg pet store, I didn't hesitate to select one of each flavor. This was the kind of food I was looking for and presumed it would be a BIG hit with my cats; it was not.
Chetzer ate some of the Quail, but not much. Zac didn't even get close to his plate; KeyZo smelled his plate and walked away. Skizzy did the same. This was a REAL disappointment.
I still have hopes for the other flavors. Cats SHOULD like "all meat"... Maybe my cats just need more time to adapt to the change I offered them.
IF my cats would have liked this food or even eaten some of it, I think I would have rated this food a "5". However, it didn't pass the "taste test", so I dropped the rating to a "4". It IS a desirable meat-only cat food.
Pros: Contains 100% Quail; Grain-Free
Cons: Cats weren't attracted to this food!

An excellent supplement to a kibble diet
posted 3 years ago
my kitties primarily eat kibble, but i like to supplement their dry diet with moist food once per day. a lot of cats don't really frink enough on their own, and i want them to have some moist food to get more moisture in their diet, which should be good for their urinary tract health. well, the problem is, i could never find a moist food that all 5 of my cats liked. it may sound weird, but most of my cats actually prefer kibble and can be quite finicky about moist foods. i've tried quite a few excellent, high quality canned foods, and without exception, there has always been at least 1 cat that didn't like it.
now, the canned food is just supplemental for my kitties. Before Grain canned cat food specifically says on the can that it is "intended for supplemental feeding only" and is "not intended for use as a complete and balanced diet". i had always bought them canned food that was "formulated to meet AAFCO standards" for their life stage, but then it occurred to me that this wasn't absolutely necessary. they eat plenty of kibble, they get the nutrition they need from that, and maybe, just for the sake of moisture (and treating them), they might prefer Before Grain, since it's all meat and nothing else. after all, i've never known them to turn up their noses at a little bit of canned tuna.
and i was right. every one of my finicky little kitties tucked right into the Before Grain canned food, and for the first time in a loooooong time, there was none left over, at all.
Pros: pure meat
Cons: only for supplemental feeding
