DO NOT BUY THE 'Easy Set' TRAP!
posted 4 years ago
The Havahart Model #: 1085 East Set Raccoon Trap is the worst invention EVER! Myself and my grandmother have the same model. I use it to TNR feral cats.
DO NOT BUY IT! So many times the cat has gone in there and it has not snapped shut even with the cat putting it's full weight on the release pad!
Other times the cat has snapped it, but the trapped FAILED TO LOCK, causing the cat to escape!
Another time the trap snapped shut, and I checked it and made sure it was locked. I started to carry it when the little PLASTIC lock broke and the feral cat pushed the door open WHILE I WAS CARRYING IT and got out of the trap! What if that feral cat had scratched or bitten me on the way out of the cage? Considering the front of the cage was about 8 inches away from my foot when it happened...
I sent Havahart an email WEEKS ago after the last time both traps had issues. They never answered me! It's a month later and time for the monthly spay/neuter clinics. AGAIN, I set the trap properly, the cat went in and it snapped shut, but as my grandmother went over to retrieve the cat to put it in the holding area the cat burst out of the cage and ran past her.
I am extremely displeased with Havahart for failing to even take the time of day to tell me what is going on.
DO NOT BUY Model #: 1085!!!!
Pros: It looks great but it's AWFUL!
Cons: It has a mind of it's own!

Model 1079 good for cats & small wildlife
posted 4 years ago
I use the Model 1079 (32x10x12) to rescue feral kitties. I also use it to catch small urban wildlife in order to relocate them. The trap is very easy to set up. It is also doesn't take much pressure to close it. I recently caught a tiny kitten whose tiny little weight was enough to close the trap. I've never missed with this trap. I always put it in an area where the cats feel safe & if possible, I cover it with greenery, a tarp, or clean towel. I always make sure its clean because the scent of previous animals will make many of the animals wary. We have some of the neighborhood cats that allow themselves to get caught regularly. They get a free meal & then they get returned home so they go for the traps every time. This is a great trap. I couldn't save as many animals as I do without it.
Pros: safe, effective, holds up well, easy to set up
Cons: none

Gets the job done!
posted 4 years ago
We have two of these traps at the shelter that we loan out for people to catch stray and feral cats with. 95% of the time, they come back to the shelter with a cat in them - success!! They can be complicated to use and we find ourselves giving lots of lessons on how to use. They can also pose a problem if they have a feral cat inside and you aren't very careful where you place your fingers while carrying the cage. Otherwise, we're very happy with these live traps!!
Pros: gets the job done
Cons: can be complicated to use

You can even catch house squirrels!
posted 4 years ago
We borrowed one of these traps from a friend of the family to catch the creature that was making way more noise than a mouse possibly could in the attic. It took a few days, but pretty soon we had a GIANT squirrel friend in the trap. We were able to release him in the wild without a problem and the endless middle of the night attic noises were stopped. Two thumbs up!
Pros: works well, gets the job done
Cons: Heavy, can be a challenge to learn to use

A great humane trap
posted 5 years ago
An effective and humane trap to catch almost anything, from mice to cats. This trap comes in many different sizes. I have caught feral cats with this, the raccoon that was killing my chickens, and my escaped pet rats. I always have one set up in my house for those little escapees. A great trap.
Pros: Comes in different sizes
Cons: no cons
