All birds should have some natural perches in their cages. The differences in texture, circumference and shape keep the feet healthy. Sitting on the same size smooth perches the cages generally come with day in and day out causes sores of the bottom of their feet and can also cause bumble foot.

You should plae them stratigically so that they don't become contaminated with feces. As they are hard to thoroughly disinfect. They can be cleaned by soaking in a little bleach or safer disinfectant if they get contaminated with feces or dibree. And you do not have to wait for them to dry as long as they are rinced well the moisture will benifit the feets feet. I have never had a bird get arthritus from wet perches like the books would have you believe.

They also help with keeping the nails from over growing.

I always try to keep a few different perches in Groucho's cage. I like the fact of Natural wood being one of those choices.Not only is it pleasing to the eye,but the perch has lasted a very long time with minimal wear and tear.Groucho can be a pretty tough bird when it comes to chewing,and yet,he leaves this perch alone.Maybe because it does feel so natural to him.I think it's good for birds to have different sizes and textures to stand on,and it seems that this perch does the trick.I have even used these Perches for bigger/smaller Birds,because of the fact that the branch goes from thin to thicker sizes.
I keep a brush handy to give it a good scrape on occasion,and that keeps it clean for us.
It also seems to be one of Groucho's favorite perches.

These pirches are great for birds of any species. They love to stand on them and it's great to add levels to the cage so that they can stand at the bottom middle or top of the cage. This way you can also hang toys from the top of the cage and your bird can reach the toys.

It is also great that this pirch is soft and made out of wood. My bird loves to rub his beak on the wood. It is also good to have so your birdy doesn't hurt his feet from standing on the wire at the bottom of the cage all day and night.

I love these natural perches for my sun conures. they are more like a natural environment, and they can chew on them if they want to, since they love to chew wood items. I have tried the rough perches but the birds won't stand on them.
