A toy for pluckers

posted 6 years ago

This is one of those must have toys for plucking birds and it is interesting that other birds in my house leave it alone, but the couple that were pluckers would preen it consistently.

It is inexpensive so once it is dirty I throw it away. Besides, the heavy overpreeners can literally break the strands off of it which is better than pulling their feathers out.

We adopted an old old cherry head conure that only had feathers on his head and part of his wings and we used many types of "pluckers" toys like this. It reduced the amount of plucking considerably although never really stopped it in total. He eventually died for cancer (the second bird we lost to cancer but both at fairly old ages).

But I digress. This is a great product. It may not look like much to some, but if you have a plucker, first, after a full vet check up to rule out thyroid issues (yes thryoid problems can make them pluck and there is a very quick fix for that) or other health issues, a toy like this can do wonders BEFORE they make plucking a lifelong habit.

Pros: Great for pluckers, inexpensive,

Cons: Throw away when dirty

Nice for my cockatiel

posted 6 years ago

My cockatiel loves to preen this. He is afraid of most new toys but was fine with this from the beginning. I'm happy that he loves it.

Pros: nice for smaller birds

Cons: not for big birds

Looks like a fishing lure to me but..

posted 6 years ago

When I first saw this my first impression was a fishing lure but the birds love this. Figured the way our birds pick at loose strings on clothes that they'd go after this and they did. Provides them with a lot of entertainment = )

Pros: Birds love the strings

Cons: none known
