I use Morning Song wild bird food in all my feeders - and have noticed I have a larger variety of birds than any other winter (they must talk to each other) - anyway - I have woodpeckers, and I bet this would be a good addition. There isn't really and waste because many of the birds eat what lands on the ground while other birds are pecking away eating. I always have a lot of birds eating on the ground under the feeders.

Wish we could put this out more, as I love to see the variety of birds that come by when I do have it. It comes with a stick and rope to hang it from, but I like the wire basket containers made for this better. I attach a wire loop to the basket to further secure this where I hang it, otherwise squirrels would try to carry this off. Another squirrel attack prevention I perform is moving the food around to confuse the squirrels. It usually takes them awhile to find the new feeding spot.

Pros: birds love them, great ingredients for a variety of seed, nut, and fruit eating birds

This is easy to hang outside-no special feeder needed. The woodpeckers do prefer this to anything else except suet. Every so often I put one up mainly for the woodpeckers.
