We have this walnut shell in the bottom of our large flight cage for our pair of meyers and in the bottom of our tree play pen bases. One nice thing is that because the flight cage bottom and tree bases are so deep we can layer this deeply and then we use a scoop to scoop out bird poop and food the birds drop. Bird poop actually sticks to the walnut shell almost like clumping cat litter.

That way we are not always replacing it. Then occasionally we remove it all and replace it entirely after sanitizing the entire base(s).

I am comfortable with adult birds because it is non toxic should they decide to eat it *but they never have".

One problem is it really is not heavy enough> If the larger parrots are standing in it and start flapping their wings it will spread out onto the floor. But then that does not happen a lot anyway.

Pros: Good for bottom of flights and play trees

This is good to put down at the bottom of the cage, but we switched.

I like this for putting in the bottom of my cockateils cage. They are over 20 years old...
